Four RUGGEDISED cities have been chosen for the European Mission on Smart and Climate Neutral Cities. The three flagship cities of RUGGEDISED, Rotterdam, Umeå and Glasgow, and the Fellow City Parma have been called upon to participate in the project and act at the forefront as part of the EU Mission for 100 smart and climate-neutral cities by 2030 The selection was made out of a total of 377 candidates and 112 cities were chosen (100 within the European Union and 12 from countries associated with Horizon Europe).
In announcing cities, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: “The green transition is making its way across Europe right now. But there is always a need for pioneers who set even higher goals. These cities are showing us the way to a healthier future. We will support them in this! Let's start work today ”.
RUGGEDISED Coordinator Albert Engels, from the City of Rotterdam, said: “This choice is a great recognition of the work we have done in the RUGGEDISED project. The Mission ”will require all of us, not only municipalities but also citizens, academia and private companies, to urgently develop new methods of collaboration towards a zero-carbon world. With the RUGGEDISED project we have a solid foundation to do it successfully and we look forward to using the methods and experiences of RUGGEDISED to fulfill this new ambitious commitment ".
